reunionFor us, working in favour of Human Rights means participating in the struggle of many people, organisations and communities for a fairer and more decent world. Consequently we try to put into practice the motto "all the rights for all the people".

Nowadays we can resort to important instruments to defend and promote Human Rights, both at a national and international level. However, the international agenda is full of selfish, false conceptions of "security" and "war on terrorism" which prevent the universal enjoyment of Human Rights.

We are trying to fight those tendencies by means of our work. We firmly believe that security and human rights are not conflicting terms, but rather the opposite; they are two sides of the same coin: there cannot be security without human rights, or human rights without security.

That is why our activities connected with food sovereignty and the Right to Food are so important; and the same applies to the work carried out to promote Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCR) and the rights of minorities in places like the Chocó-Atrato (Colombia), Chiapas (Mexico) or Guatemala, and to defend the most vulnerable populations in the Saharawi Republic and Palestine. In addition, we have participated actively in the campaigns against the war on Irak (see report).

manifestacionAt present we are also defending the case of our friends Iñigo Egiluz and Jorge Luis Mazo, who were murdered by the Colombian paramilitary forces for supporting the black and indigenous communities of the Atrato. The report has been taken to the Interamerican System of Human Rights, and includes dozens of cases of lesser-known victims murdered in the same circumstances.

In order to carry out these tasks we participate in several coordinating committees, work in the Executive Committee of OIDHACO and follow the activities of the United Nations Committee. Apart from that we have a group of volunteers who design and implement their own annual plans.
