We are an association committed to social change which intends to strengthen the organizational and productive capacities of Southern communities through microfinance, so that they can confront their integral and sustainable development challenges. The association Elkarcredit was established in December 2004 –under the name PTM-credit- as a microfinance tool aimed at creating employment, self-employment and micro-business within an endogenous and participatory development approach which will turn popular economy into the driving force for social and political change
![]() Mission This entity intends to:
• Be an entity which carries out development cooperation with donations and refundable funds, is economically sustainable and reinvests economic surpluses in the project; • Become microfinances an effective instrument for promoting a fairer world, by pooling socially useful projects and responsible savers, seeking greater coherence between our values and the use of our money; • Reach Southern Communities, not with donations or as social action, but as subjects with full rights. Likewise, in the North we hope to promote a culture of new values with regard to responsible solidarity lending, and to channel the efforts of those social sectors which are willing to support transformation processes in the South.
We are united by a personal desire for solidarity and the conviction that the structural poverty of the majorities constitutes a violation of Human Rights, as well as the idea of solidarity based on the spreading and enjoyment of all the rights for all the people on a gender equality basis.
We encourage a critical vision of the citizens in our society and in the public and private institutions, and we support and promote work within international alliances and networks.
And we have efficiency as a resource management principle and continuous improvement as a tool to achieve quality in our work. Vision
To become a second-level microfinance institution, coordinated with the Northern Ethical Bank (from FIARE), which will bring together wills and resources to the benefit of the alternative ethical micro-finance institutions and organisations in our Southern counterparts, will serve to create employment and economic activity and to strengthen a large network of social movements and will fulfil a shared role, by joining synergies from social organisations, communities, local administrations, states and the international Ethical Bank. To be a microfinance institution of reference for gender policy in this area.
