Mundubat began working in Mozambique in 2008, through the União Nacional de Camponeses – UNAC (National Union of Small-scale Farmers). UNAC is the country's main organization for small-scale farmers, and has a membership base numbering around 86,000 small producers, mostly women, grouped into 2,122 associations and co-operatives. In addition, it is one of the biggest drivers of Vía Campesina in Africa.
Mundubat conceives of its work in Mozambique and with UNAC as a strategic move to start to "look towards Africa" (beyond the Sahara), where the world's lowest Human Development Indices are found, advocating the small-scale farming movement and food sovereignty.
