Municipalism and Local Power.- We work with the municipalities of Sololá, Santa Maria Cahabón and Ixcán. In addition we have taken an active part in the development of the laws of Urban and Rural Development Councils, Decentralisation Law and the Municipal Code. The objective of all that is to develop and improve the municipalities, local power and citizens' participation.

 

Popular Economies.- We try to encourage the development of popular economies, not only to diversify production or for marketing purposes, but also to strengthen the organisations of producers and communities with a view to improve food security.

 

Gender.- This aspect is not merely a tool to be included in our projects; we want to turn Gender in Development into an institutional sign of identity. Besides that we promote positive discrimination, or at least pay particular attention to women in organisational, educational and production processes.

 

Antiglobalisation movements and other networks.- We participate in several regional forums created by antiglobalisation movements to elaborate responses to the Puebla Panamá Plan or the Free Trade Treaty, and also in the Porto Alegre Forum. We particularly want to stress our involvement in the process of the Mesodiálogo. The objective of this process is to establish democratisation mechanisms in the cooperation of the European Union, and it has brought together the civilian society of Guatemala, the Guatemalan Government, European NGOs, member states of the European Union and the European Union Delegation.
